Wound Care

Most abdominal wounds will have dissolving sutures and a thin layer of skin glue as dressing: so suture removal is not required. Peel off the glue after 3 weeks is ideal.

Wound around the bottom generally require no dressing but hand  wash or bath twice daily either with salty water or dilute Dettol. For comfort, you can cover the wound with a sanitary pad between washes

 Pain Killers

Please make sure you get a script upon discharge for some pain killers after operation. Generally this is prescribed with a mild laxative (lactulose) to counteract constipation. Please note prolonged use of opioids  can cause addiction.

For anal wounds, ice compress on the site 10-15 minutes hourly whilst lying horizontal is worthwhile.
